Tour One begins at Fordyce. Located at the junction of U.S. 167 and 79. Stop in at Klappenbach Bakery, a Fordyce landmark, then head over to the Charlotte Street Historic District to see a handsome collection of vintage structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Wynne Phillips House, a bed and breakfast lodging located elsewhere in town, is also on the National Register and is open for tours.
Another National Register site is the Presbyterian Church, renowned for its beautiful stained glass windows. Downtown points of interest include the Dallas County Museum, Mainstreet Antique Mall, The Jewelry Box and other specialty shops.
Drive northwest to Manning and Sparkman on Ark. 8 for more antiques and collectibles. Thornton, south of Fordyce, also has antiques. Civil War buffs will find Marks' Hill Cemetery on Hwy. 95 North interesting. Located just north of Marks' Hill, a state historic site commemorating a Civil War battle, the cemetery holds Confederate dead killed in the battle.
