Warren, the Pink Tomato Capitol of the World, is the start of Tour Two. Warren's historic square features shops of all kinds, and the old county clerk's office, courthouse and Dr. John Wilson Martin House, now the Bradley County Historical Museum, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This is the home of the Bradley County Tomato Market, so try to time your visit for the summer harvest. Warren also has many historic homes.
Traveling west of Warren on U.S. Hwy. 278, you'll pass through the small village of Banks, where one of the last general stores offers an inviting stop.
Crossroads of Tour Two is Hampton, hometown of movie producers Harry Thomason and Charles B. Pierce. Hampton's historic square, quaint shops and Calhoun County Courthouse deserve a look. The courthouse was displayed on the TV show "Evening Shade." Hampton's Hogskin Days Festival has lots of good times.
Traveling west on U.S. 278, Camden is the next stop. Camden is one corner of a "Golden Triangle" of Arkansas South cities which are considering a common promotion of their area as a "package" tourism destination. The other two corners of the Golden Triangle are El Dorado and Magnolia.
Shopping for antiques is fun in Camden's revitalized downtown. There are over 20 structures at Camden listed in the National Register of Historic Places, including the McCollum-Chidester House (ca. 1847) and the Graham-Gaughan-Betts Home (ca. 1856), both open for tours. Pick up a Driving Tour of Homes or information on guided private garden tours at a chamber of commerce.
Drive west on Ark. 24 to Poison Springs Battleground Historical Monument, which marks one of the three Civil War battles that took place during the Union Army's "Red River Campaign." Continue west on Ark. 24 to Ark. 387 and White Oak Lake State Park. Besides top bass fishing action, the park has campsites, trails and other facilities.
