Arkansas' South features fascinating Arkansas museums, which are available for tours filled with artifacts, photographs, fossils and other artifacts, oil boom era memorabilia, bookstore and gift shops.

There are several Arkansas State Parks in the southern region of the state, offering guided educational tours, outdoor family activities, and fun-filled festivals and events for the whole family.

Ashley County

Crossett

Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge - covering 65,000 acres in Ashley, Bradley and Union Counties, Felesenthal NWR is the world's largest green-tree reservoir. Located 5 miles west of Crossett on U.S. Hwy 82, the Refuge offers hiking trails, fishing, wildlife observation photograhpy, hunting, including youth hunts, environmental education and interpretation, and camping. Bradley County

Warren

Felthensal National Wildlife Refuge - established in 1970 is located in the Felsenthal Basin of Southcentral Arkansas. Public hunting and fishing permitted on approximately 65,000 acres during specific times of the year. Wildlife observation is a popular activity year round. Bradley County Historical Museum - located on Ash Street. It's housed in the John Wilson Martin House which is the oldest structure in Bradley County. The house and it's contents represent Bradley County's history. For more information, call (870) 226-5457

The Bradley County Courthouse - listed on the National Register of Historical Places, it reflects the NeoItalian renaissance and was built in 1903. The Warren city park displays a vintage locomotive , the lobby of city hall has historical photographs of downtown Warren from the 19th century.

Moro Bay State Park - formed where Raymond Lake and Moro Bay join the Ouachita River. This park is one of the most popular fishing and watersport area in south Arkansas. Whether fishing from bank or boat the abundant bass, bream, crappie, and catfish provide fishing enthusiasts with hours of fishing excitement. Sportsmen use Moro Bay as a camping base while hunting on permitted areas for the area's white-tail deer, squirrel, wild turkey, rabbit, and waterfowl. Facilities include 20 Class A camp sites, picnic areas, hiking trails, visitor's center with a store stocking gift items to tackle, hunting and fishing licenses are available as well as a marina with gas for sale and boat slip rentals, the Moro Bay Ferry exhibit, and a playground. A large covered screened pavilion is available for group outings and reunions of all types. Popular water activities include swimming, boating, jetskiing, water skiing, and houseboating. Albermarle Artificial Marsh - Albermarle's Artificial Marsh is the Nature inspired wave of the future in environmentally safe wetlands development and reclamation of water. Come see how much fun it can be to tour the facilities, exhibits, habitat and wildlife of this artificial marsh which serves as a natural water purification systems. Spend an enjoyable time touring our facilities and exhibits, and watching our wildlife in its natural habitat. Albermarle's Artificial Marsh is educational and fun.

Wildlife feeding stations - See raccoons, otters, beavers and other forest creatures, plus ducks, hawks, redwing blackbirds, great blue herons, egrets and other birds and waterfowl feeding in their natural habitat.

Amazing Variety of Aquatic Plants - view over 80,000 aquatic plants that include maiden cane, torpedo grass, Southern bulrush and cattails, spider lilies and many more.

Teaching Stations - A glass display of marsh development includes an extensive photographic exhibit, plus a freshwater aquarium filled with fish and amphibians. See catfish, goldfish, beautiful multi-colored Japanese Koi, minnows, crayfish, frogs, and turtles. Watch us feed the fish.

Logoly State Park - located 6 miles northeast of Magnolia off state highway 79, Logoly State Park is an Environmental Education Park. The central feature is a set of eleven natural springs. Purported to have healing powers, the springs have a rich 100-year history. The park has a modern visitor center featuring exhibits of the history and natural environment of the park, a teaching/audio visual room, an outdoor amphitheater and a tree-shaded picnic area. Observation stands and photo blinds are provided along the park's walking trails to aid in nature observation and bird watching. Tent camping sites are also available. Dallas County

Fordyce

Dallas County Museum - features a history of our forestry, railroad, geological and communication exhibits, dentistry exhibit, Dr. T.E. Rhine exhibit (runner-up for doctor of the year in 1950's) and the "Bear" Bryant exhibit. The 13,000 sq. ft. museum is a user family museum with hands on exhibits and regularly scheduled programs for the area school children.

Ouachita County

Camden

McCollum-Chidester House Museum - visit the McCollum-Chidester House Museum, built in 1847 by Peter McCollum, later sold to John Chidester, which was the headquarters of the Chidester Overland Stage Coach Service which ran between Alabama and Arizona. It is open from March through November for tours, has original furnishings dating back to 1863 of the John Chidester Family. For more information call (870) 836-9243.

Missouri-Pacific Depot - The offices of the Camden Area Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Camden are located in the historic Missouri-Pacific Depot, built in 1913. The Depot houses a mini-museum containing railroad and civil war memorabilia as well as Grapette and Camark Pottery, both of which were manufactured in Camden.

Poison Springs Battle Ground Historical Monument - marks the area where the Confederate soldiers captured a Union supply train in 1864 during the Union's Red River Campaign. Hiking trails and picnic sites are available.

Union County

El Dorado & Smackover - Union County

Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources - This state museum between El Dorado and Smackover on Scenic Highway 7 tells the story of the early 1920's oil boom in South Arkansas and the oil and brine industry past, present and future. Travel down the shaft of an oil well and try the hands on exhibits, both indoors and outdoors. It's a visit you won't soon forget. South Arkansas Arboretum - A beautiful nature preserve near El Dorado, the South Arkansas Arboretum is a wonderful place to explore the flora and fauna of Arkansas. There are over two miles of paved nature trails to hike and guided tours are available by appointment. For more information call (870)862-4922.
